When I create a document in Microsoft Word 2007 and have both text and pictures on the same page, when I print, the text moves to a different page. How can I fix this?

Unfortunately, layout problems often don’t show up until a document is printed.

Without seeing the document or knowing your printer settings, it is difficult to diagnose what is causing your Microsoft Word printing problems. But here are some suggestions. Hopefully one of these will solve your printing woes…

Pictures
  • First, make sure you are creating your document in print layout view. (On the ribbon, View > Print Layout.) That way what you see on screen is what you get when you print.
  • Check your page size, margin, and printer settings to make sure your document isn’t using settings that are outside the printable area for your printer. See your printer documentation for margin specifications.
  • Don’t place images, or parts of images, outside the margins or printable area.
  • The document may be scaled to the wrong paper size. With Word 2007 open, press Ctrl+P to open the Print dialog box. Under Zoom, set the scaling option to either No Scaling or the correct paper size.
  • Don’t print in draft mode. Click the Office Button > Word Options. On the Advanced tab under Print, deselect Use Draft Quality.
  • Anchor the image to the paragraph where you want it to print, then lock it. See Anchor Clip Art for more information. Also see the discussion, Microsoft Word Clipart Moves Text.
  • If images don’t print at all, change the print options settings. With Word 2007 open, press Ctrl+P to open the Print dialog box, then click Options. Select Print Drawings Created in Word, and Print Background Colors and Images. Click OK.

If none of these suggestions fix your Microsoft Word printing problems, let me know what type of printer you are using and if you are using any Word Wrap settings on your image.

Print Drawings Created in Word

To place text, in this case to the right and bottom of the image, I chose Print Drawings Created in Word and Text Wrapping – Square. To choose only Text Wrapping – In Line with Text, the beginning of the text will start from the bottom of the image. Wasted space! If you don’t care that you’ve wasted white space, then you don’t need to chose Print Drawings Created in Word. The image will appear in print preview and will be printed and the text will appear below the image.

When it does this I have to force shutdown and restart the application, losing any unsaved work. Downloaded microsoft word 2016 mac keeps freezing.

If you are using a template, then there usually are images inserted already, however for those that are designing documents from scratch, the following details how to insert images into your documents for the major office suites.

OpenOffice.org / NeoOffice / LibreOffice Writer

To insert an image in Writer, put your cursor where you want the image to be positioned.

Then select Insert >> Picture >> From File…

Your image should appear in the document. Usually in the middle of the page.

Right click on the image and from the pop-up menu select alignment and then the desired position on the page. In this example we are selecting ‘Right’.

To wrap your text around the image, right click on the picture, then select ‘wrap’ and the appropriate wrapping that you want. For this example I selected ‘Optimal Page Wrap’.


The text will then wrap around the image, adding a nice shape to your document.
