When editing documents for others, the Comments feature of Word can be useful. However, the small black-on-red text is difficult to read. The instructions in this tutorial can be used to change the appearance of the comments.

Below is an example of how small comments are in Word. Many people may find it hard to read them without zooming the document up.

Luckily, it is possible to change the font face and the size of the comments like below:

6. Once you have done tweaking, click OK -> OK to save the changes and dismiss the windows. The comments in your document will be updated to reflect the changes automatically.

Older versions:
To change the Comments’ font style in Microsoft Word, use the steps below:

1. Open Word.

2. Click the Format menu.

3. Click Styles and Formatting.

4. At the bottom of the Formatting sidebar is a dropdown box. Select custom for this dropdown.

5. Check Balloon Text. (Not Comment Text)

6. Click OK.

7. Select Balloon Text in the Formatting sidebar.

8. Click Modify.

9. Now, you can select the font face, style, and color you want for your comments.

How to Change Your User Name for Track Changes in Word

Important Note: These steps must be completed before you use Track Changes because they don’t change the name associated with existing edits or comments. Word doesn’t have a straightforward way to change user names connected to existing edits or comments.

However, you can replace user names with the default label Author for all existing and future edits and comments, as shown in “How to Remove User Names from Existing Track Changes in Microsoft Word.”

Get Microsoft Word For Mac

1. Select the Review tab in the ribbon.

2. Select the dialog box launcher in the Tracking group.

3. Select the Change User Name button in the Track Changes Options dialog box.

4. Change the user name and/or the initials in the Word Options dialog box.

Pro Tip: You can also open the Word Options dialog box by selecting the File Tab followed by Options in the backstage view.

5. Check the box in front of “Always use these values regardless of sign in to Office” if you want to save these changes for future documents.

6. Select the OK button to save your changes.

Your updated user name should now appear when you add new comments and edits.
